The Challenge: When Vending Machines Reach Their Limits
Direct sales at Sempione AG's production site are popular—so popular that the previous solution became a problem. The meat processing company initially relied on classic vending machines. However, these quickly hit their capacity limits: the high demand could no longer be met.
Additionally, the customer experience suffered from two key factors:
- Limited Product Range: The narrow slots of the vending machines prevented any expansion of the product selection.
- Technological Failures: Frequent breakdowns and malfunctions frustrated customers and created unnecessary hassle.
The goal was clear: a new solution was needed that not only extended opening hours but also offered a genuine shopping experience—without increasing staffing levels.
The Solution: Orchestration in the "QUBE"
To overcome these bottlenecks, Sempione opted against new vending machines and in favor of a walk-in, modular "QUBE" store. YourStore acts as the operating system, orchestrating the hardware components and enabling autonomous operation.
The project implementation took about 6 weeks and covered the following core areas:
1. Smart Access Management
Instead of open doors or physical keys, the store uses a digital access solution. Registered customers gain entry via an app. This ensures that only identified individuals enter the store—a fundamental requirement for unmanned 24/7 operation.
2. Maximum Product Presentation
YourStore's technological foundation enabled the integration of a professional store infrastructure. Instead of being confined to vending machines, the products are now displayed in refrigerated cases stretching over 40 meters. A central cooling system ensures a continuous cold chain and operates with high energy efficiency.
3. Seamless Self-Checkout
The payment process has been fully digitized. Customers scan and pay for their meat products independently at a terminal, which eliminates wait times and reduces the need for sales staff to zero.
